Open-NFP Developer Conference
Monday, June 12
9:00 - 12:30
Open-NFP.org is a worldwide, community-driven organization to enable open and collaborative development in the area of data plane acceleration for network functions processing in server networking. Open-NFP hosts over 35 open projects and has over a 100 developers from Service Providers, OEMs, research institutions and academia. The portal also offers developers support with a development SDK and open source code. A number of Open-NFP activities and projects are around service provider applications, in areas such as NFV data plane acceleration, hardware accelerated VNFs, security, and in-band network telemetry.
The motivation for having an Open-NFP developer conference event at the OPNFV summit in Beijing is to foster broader cooperation between the OPNFV and Open-NFP developer communities.
With the tools and libraries from Open-NFP, developers can create and deploy community-supported and custom dataplane and host applications for bare-metal and virtualized network infrastructure and network function applications. This session at OPNFV will introduce attendees to developing and deploying open acceleration applications that can be integrated with OPNFV and other open networking projects. The session will cover:
- A platform acceleration model and available functions (using Agilio), its application and use in the NFV infrastructure and how VNF developers can leverage it for better performance.
- An open source kernel interface through which Agilio will offer hardware-based acceleration.
- Methods and tools for developers to create and deploy open host networking applications that can leverage acceleration through an open interface.
- Methods for developers to create and deploy network data plane applications in P4 and EBPF
With the tools and libraries from Open-NFP, developers can create and deploy community-supported and custom dataplane and host applications for bare-metal and virtualized network infrastructure and network function applications.
The methods presented can be used with any hardware accelerator that supports the open interfaces. The sponsor of this co-located event, Netronome, offers an underlying platform called Agilio that will be used for demonstration purposes. Netronome has based the Agilio CX SmartNIC on Open vSwitch in the OPNFV Colorado and Danube releases to accelerate the NFVi virtual switching layer. This work has been verified by industry partner Nokia in their Airframe Data Center system. Furthermore, Netronome is officially demonstrating Agilio on Danube jointly with Nokia the week of April 24-28 at the OPNFV Plugfest in France.
Please note there is no cost to participate. You will only be charged a cancellation/no-show fee of $50 if you do not cancel by 8:00 PST on Wednesday, June 7 or no-show for the event.
